Since 2018, there has been a noticeable increase in the sale of non-alcoholic beverages on the Polish market. At that time, they were already responsible for 1/8 of the value sale of the entire grocery basket, and the value of the market itself now exceeded PLN 25 billion. Nevertheless, the industry of cooling and refreshing drinks has its specificity, strongly related to the seasonality: despite the general upward trend, still most refreshing products are sold in the warm months - in the cold months, the demand decreases.

However, this does not change the fact that the soft drinks market in Poland is undergoing intensive development. It is influenced not only by the economic situation, but also by activities promoting a healthy lifestyle, tradition (in winter, the increase in cold drinks can be observed around Christmas and New Year), the intense pace of life and marketing activities of the producers themselves. However, you are probably wondering which drinks Poles most often drink? We'll explain that in a moment!

The water is still rushing

For several years now, mineral water has reigned supreme on the podium of Poland's favorite non-alcoholic beverages! It is the one that is most often used by up to 70% of consumers. This fact is pleasing, especially in the face of other data which clearly indicate that Poles consume too little water after all. The increasing sales tendency of this natural drink is certainly influenced by the increase in nutritional and health awareness and the promotion of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Interestingly, statistically women more often use still mineral water, and men - sparkling water. Are the gentlemen's palates demanding, however, more sensations?

Always Coca-Cola

On the second step of the refreshing podium there are carbonated refreshing drinks such as Cola and Pepsi (most often they are consumed by around 27% of consumers). It is worth paying attention to an interesting fact: although consumers often describe Pepsi's taste as better, Coca-Cola still reigns in the sales rankings, which is influenced by marketing activities and ... the very tradition of the brand, which is undoubtedly considered cult and not only in Poland, but also around the world.

Desire doesn't stand a chance

Apart from refreshing carbonated drinks such as Pepsi and Cola, other carbonated drinks are also very popular in Poland, including Sprite, Fanta, Mirinda or 7up, and periodically (especially in the summer) the frequency of selling tonics (Schweppes, Kinley) also increases. . Iced teas are still sold somewhat less frequently, but their popularity is generally starting to increase, especially in the summer. For some time now, we have also been seeing new brands of iced teas appearing on store shelves across the country.

Fruity dizziness

About 53% of Polish women and 41% of Polish men regularly use natural fruit juices, and the most recognizable brands are Tymbark, Dr. Wit, Kubuś or Tarczyn. However, it is worth mentioning here another trend, which has been shown by research: home-made juices and compotes are often in this category. This may again be related to increasing nutritional awareness and popularizing a healthy lifestyle. Interestingly, among fruit juice lovers, juices imported from beyond our eastern border (including Ukraine) were positively received, although they are still not very popular in the country.

Sometimes you need wings

Another category of beverages that Poles use more and more often are energy drinks (Red Bull, XL Enegry Drink, or Monster Energy), as well as isotonic and vitamin drinks. In 2018, a 23% increase in the popularity of this type of products was recorded, and the upward trend continues. It is worth emphasizing that energy and isotonic drinks, unlike other types of cold drinks, are not very dependent on seasonal trends - their sales level is similar throughout the year.

As you can see, Poles have some favorites when it comes to cooling and refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. The above list can be a serious hint for buyers, especially smaller stores, which types of products should always be on store shelves to meet the basic preferences of consumers.
