Chocolate is one of the most beloved sweets. Some people reach for it very willingly and often, others try to avoid it. There is a lot of information about chocolate… but which are true and which are just myths?
Dark chocolate is dark chocolate
This is quite a damaging myth about milk-free chocolate. Dark chocolate can be bitter, but that is not necessarily the case. It all really depends on how the cocoa beans are prepared. High-percentage dark chocolate doesn't have to be bitter in taste. This type of delicacy can contain a large variety of different flavors - earthy, floral or leather. What's more, these flavors are best seen in dark chocolates, which is their great asset.
The more cocoa, the better
The percentage of chocolate does not prove the quality of chocolate. Its quality depends on many factors - the type of beans, their fermentation or what happens with them afterwards. The higher the percentage of cocoa, the less sugar, but the quality is not affected.
Milk chocolate is the healthiest because it has a lot of milk in it
This is another myth. Milk chocolate is unlikely to be healthier than dark chocolate, unless it is also high in cocoa. There is then a chance that there is little or no sugar in it.
All dark chocolates are the same
The basis of dark chocolate is cocoa mass and sugar, but it can actually contain all the flavors of the world, if only because of the type of grain selected and the region it comes from. Chocolates differ in their aftertaste, appearance and even smell.
Chocolate causes a headache
Studies have found no link between eating chocolate and greater headache. The bad influence belief comes from people reaching out for this treat when they feel bad, and when their head starts to ache due to stress or some other factor, they wrongly associate it with chocolate.
It's hard to fall asleep after chocolate
The fact is, chocolate contains caffeine. However, there is so little of it that eating it certainly cannot cause problems with falling asleep.
Chocolate causes tooth decay
Numerous studies show that eating chocolate has less effect on tooth decay than eating sugar alone. It is sugar that causes tooth decay, so if you choose chocolate with a high cocoa content and a small amount of sugar, don't worry.
Chocolate light will not increase body weight
Every chocolate, even the light one, contains cocoa butter, so despite the label, it is not healthier and more dietary. Only the sugar that is contained in traditional chocolate is in this case replaced with other enhancers.
Chocolate makes you allergic
Chocolate itself does not cause allergies, as its main ingredient, cocoa, does not exhibit allergy-prone properties. However, other ingredients of the treat may be such factors.
The white coating on the chocolate is mold
This is not true. A white coating (fat bloom) indicates that the chocolate has been stored incorrectly. It is possible that it was formed at the stage of its production as a result of too slow cooling. It has nothing to do with the deterioration of the product and the chocolate is fit for consumption.
