Thin, crunchy bars, sold in pairs in one package! Those that were invented by two brothers, but quarreled, so the left and right had to be produced in separate factories.

Wait a minute ... but is it true or is it just an advertisement? Are you curious about the true history of TWIX bars? We invite you to read!

Sweetness shrouded in mystery

Little can be said about the origins and history of TWIX bars. Why? Because it is shrouded in mystery! And some things can only be guessed at. But who came up with the idea of inventing two thin bars that we all associate with chocolate, cookie and delicious caramel? We are not sure here, although Forrest Mars himself - the son of the founder of the MARS company, is suspected of this sweet creative invention.

It is known, however, that TWIX bars were created in 1967 in Great Britain. They have been manufactured continuously by MARS Incorporated since then. TWIX is nothing more than two thin biscuit cookies with an oblong shape. They are 110 mm long and covered with a layer of caramel (32%) and covered with milk chocolate (35%). Why are there two per pack? Probably because they are just much thinner than other bars on the market.

TWIX has not always been TWIX

For many, this information may be shocking! TWIX wasn't always called that. Initially, when it was sold primarily on the European market, it was called "Raider". The bars have been operating under this name for several decades and have even managed to take root in the minds of consumers. So why has there been a change? The MARS concern probably decided on it because of the unification of its marketing strategy on a global scale. Since the 1980s, attempts were made to introduce the product to the American market. At a time when its popularity was growing, the brand decided to create a new design and extend it to all existing markets.

While in the USA the introduction of the new - old bar was quite natural, not all consumers in Europe were satisfied with it. And the promotional slogan “Raider is now called Twix did not help. Apart from that, nothing has changed ”, which in Germany has become a symbol of the falsely understood improvement of things by giving them new and more fashionable names.

And why has TWIX become TWIX? It is also a mystery, but the name is probably a combination of the word "twin" with the word "mix", on which the creators of the advertising campaign of the product put quite a lot of emphasis.

A recognizable marketing campaign

While the previous marketing slogan related to the change of the product name was not completely positive in the minds of consumers, in recent years it is difficult to deny the brand an effective advertising campaign, which not only attracted buyers' attention, but also won its sympathy.

In the ad for TWIX, the fictitious history of the bar was presented in a funny way. It tells the story of two men who are possibly brothers or friends - Seamus and Ear'l. They are introduced as candy bar makers. However, during the opening of the factory and breaking the bar in two, they quarreled over power over their business. As a result of the conflict, they built two twin factories next to each other, in which they produced identical bars. For logistical reasons, the factories had one driveway, and two bars (i.e. the legendary right and left TWIX) were put together in one package.

The technique used in this ad is called "Brand story". Thanks to its slightly ironic, funny and colorful performance, it turned out to be catchy and won the sympathy of viewers of all ages. And of course it started a serious discussion about which TWIX tastes better - left or right?
