When it comes to alcohol, Poland is usually associated with vodka. However, our country has more to offer than you might think. You can taste various types of regional drinks here, which will surprise you with their taste.
Masovian liquors with the addition of honey
Mazovia is known primarily for its low-alcohol alcohols with the addition of honey. Honey beers, chamois beer or the name Ciechan Miodowe are very popular in this region. Apart from beers, however, you can also try cider, mead, liqueurs (for example honey and egg liqueur) and vodka.
Original, local tinctures
Honey liqueurs, known as miodula, honeyonka or warzonka, can be tasted in Silesia. Honey-based alcohols are also popular in Pomerania, especially the Onisiówka tincture. This region is also famous for the Gdańsk herbal liqueur - Goldwasser. The Kashubian community is closely related to Pomerania, which can boast of original tincture recipes. Speaking of regional liqueurs, mention should be made of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, where Moonówka from pears and Bulimiaczka from hawthorn flowers are produced. Niche producers of tinctures can also be found in Warmia and Mazury - for example Z. Kozub and Sons. Nalewka Kresowa and Śmietanówka should be found in the Opolskie Voivodeship.
What is Lower Silesia famous for?
Wines are the most popular in Lower Silesia. In the upper part of the region, you can taste delicious liqueurs, including the Krkonoše liqueurs, based on several dozen herbs. When visiting this part of Poland, it is worth visiting one of the oldest breweries - Lwówek Brewery, and while in Wrocław, see Wratislavia vodka.
Where else can you taste delicious regional beers?
Other provinces, not only Dolnośląskie, are also famous for the production of regional beers. The Perła Brewery and the Jagiełło Brewery are located in the Lublin region. In the Łódź Province, you can taste the original Łódź Porter or classic beers - Cornelius and Koreb. It is worth going to the Namysłów Brewery in the Opolskie Voivodeship, and you can visit the Amber Brewery in Pomerania and try the Baltic Porter. One of the leading breweries in Poland is Kormoran in Warmia and Mazury. Wielkopolska is also strongly associated with beers. You can find some interesting offers there (Fortuna or Czarnków). Black and Grodzisk beer also comes from there.
Wine regions
A highly developed wine region is the Małopolskie Province, where the production of this alcohol is carried out by Winnica nad Dworski Potokiem and Winnica Srebrna Góra. The leading producer of wines is also the Podkarpacie region, which offers, inter alia, Jutrzenka grapevine wines and the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship - here, in the Zbrodzice vineyard, Herbowe wine is made. The wine voivodeship is also considered to be Lubuskie, famous for the Miłosz Vineyard, Equus Vineyard, Krucza Vineyard and many others, as well as for the largest wine festival, known as the Winobranie.
Stronger drinks
Stronger drinks, such as wine or Gin Lubuski, can be found in the Lubuskie Province. Małopolska, in turn, is known for Łącka Śliwowica and the producer of vodka, Dwór Sieraków. Vodka is alcohol produced in large quantities in Podlasie. This is where, among others, Chopin vodka is produced, and the Kiermusianka vodka producer has its headquarters. The West Pomeranian regional alcohol is Starka, currently produced only in the factory in Szczecin.
