Energy is a very popular drink that gives you a quick boost of energy. A large number of people also eagerly reach for the MOUNTAIN DEW drink.
Is it the same and can this drink replace traditional energy?
What is MOUNTAIN DEW at all and what is its composition?
MOUNTAIN DEW is a non-alcoholic carbonated drink in the standard version with a lemon flavor, although there are different varieties. There is an orange or calorie-free variant on the market, among others. The standard variety is sweetened with fructose syrup. This drink is also enriched with various types of regulators. MOUNTAIN DEW, like energy, also contains caffeine.
You might think that the two drinks could be used interchangeably to stimulate the body. However, the caffeine content in this drink is much lower than, for example, in Red Bull. MOUNTAIN DEW contains 135 mg of caffeine per liter, with Red Bull 320 mg (there are also versions where the content of this ingredient is even higher - 133 mg / 100 ml). Therefore, the first drink will not have as strong stimulant properties as the second. On the other hand, for some people this dose may be more than enough.
Interesting facts about the drink
MOUTAIN DEW was created by the Hartman brothers and although it is very popular, few consumers probably know its more detailed history. Below are some interesting facts about it.
Originally it was supposed to be only a whiskey mixer
The creators of Mountain Dew for their own needs and their friends' needs began to produce small amounts of a lemon-lime drink. Initially, it was called "Personal SetUp" and was added to their drinks by them. Only later did it receive its current name and began to be sold as a carbonated drink in bottles and cans.
The first announcement of its introduction to the market was a joke
In 1946, the Hartman brothers asked their friend to create a funny advertisement for the drink. They then announced the market launch, though they had no intention of actually doing so. To their surprise, their speech attracted the interest of one of the bottle producers who wanted to obtain the rights to bottling the drink. This coincidence made MOUNTAIN DEW hit the shelves in 1951.
The original flavor of MOUNTAIN DEW was slightly different
The original taste of the drink was very similar to today's Sprite or 7UP. This version has not gained much consumer recognition. The company that bought the bottling rights was at the same time working on an alternative to the popular Sun Drop lemonade, which was later bottled in MOUNTAIN DEW. The new taste finally allowed the drink to enter the market and from then on it could compete with larger, more well-known brands.
MOUNTAIND DEW was supposed to contain more caffeine
MOUNTAIN DEW is a carbonated drink, not an energy drink, so it doesn't contain too much caffeine. However, the creators intended it to be different. In the early formulas of the drink, the caffeine content was much higher than in the modern version.
