A wedding is sometimes called the most important event in life. No wonder then that the bride and groom make every effort to ensure that the table does not run out of food or drink ... including the percentage! And although wedding customs subtly change (we can often taste wine, liqueurs, whiskey or even beer at weddings), one thing remains unchanged - the basic wedding alcohol was, is - and probably will be - vodka!
What criteria govern the choice of wedding vodka?
Vodka is the most traditional wedding drink. Best for toasting, it is the quickest way to "grab" guests to play on the dance floor. And although the offer of wholesalers today is large, it can be noticed that the Bride and Groom quite often follow similar criteria in their selection. In many of them, patriotic feelings are released when buying wedding vodka. Therefore, they are looking for Polish brands.
Another important criterion is the price - after all, the amount of alcohol you buy will be large, so every zloty saved on a bottle will make a difference. Most of them target brands that offer a bottle for PLN 20-30. Some Young People decide to buy vodka at a slightly higher price, PLN 30-50 per bottle. More expensive drinks happen sporadically.
Does taste matter?
Some people are also guided by the raw material from which it is made when choosing wedding vodka. Most prefer to choose a safe classic, i.e. grain vodka (usually wheat or rye). It is the most popular type of vodka in Poland, so all guests will probably be familiar with its taste. Some, however, opt for a slightly more delicate flavor, potato vodka.
What specific products do Polish newlyweds choose?
It is impossible to hide - during most Polish weddings, specific brands of vodka land on the tables. What products are most often chosen?
We looked at the statistics:
- Biały Bocian - when it comes to wedding vodkas, it has been taking the lead in recent seasons. It can be said that it is a product that meets all the basic requirements: Polish production, a familiar name, an interesting bottle with an exclusive, long neck and an extremely affordable price of about PLN 20-25 per bottle. Let's add a fairly delicate flavor to that and we have a recipe for the perfect wedding vodka.
- Ogiński - a competitor of "Bocian", who has also quite often been present at wedding tables in recent years. Made of corn, crystal clear water and subjected to a multi-stage filtration process, it has a noble, slightly spicy taste.
- Żubrówka - the iconic Polish vodka that is handed out by Polish diplomats to officials during foreign visits. It is a delicate-tasting rye vodka, currently available in several versions (including Żubrówka Bison Grass, Żubrówka Biała, Żubrówka Czarna). Quite affordable price, proven quality and tradition often justify the choice of this item.
- Wyborowa - pure rye vodka with a long tradition - its production was started in 1823 by a Jewish entrepreneur, Hardwig Kontorowicz, living in Poznań. Popularity, proven quality and affordable price often speak in favor of its choice, although not everyone likes its specific, quite spicy taste.
- Pan Tadeusz - is associated with the reference to noble traditions. After all, a wedding is a Polish tradition! It is pure vodka made from cereals based on water from deep wells.
