Okay, we all know that Żubrówka is a phenomenon among vodkas produced in Poland, but what exactly is it? What's so special about this vodka with grass inside and bison on the label? The uniqueness of Żubrówka is due to several factors that are worth reading!

Żubrówka - vodka with history

Currently, the commercial alcohol market is flooded (figuratively and literally) by numerous alcohol brands, most of which were created on the wave of consumerism in recent years. However, as can be seen from the example of Żubrówka, there are many lovers of tradition all over the world.

Żubrówka has been produced in Białowieża since the 14th century. Can you imagine it? How long is it? Let us just remind you that the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus is at the end of the 15th century, and the rise of the USA - in the second half of the 18th century! So, in total, Columbus himself, from his time perspective, could say about Żubrówka that it is "vodka with traditions". Of course, we do not know if the famous explorer actually got to know this "fiery drink", but nevertheless - this time scale is impressive!

The first brand ambassador was the king himself

If you thought that the brand ambassador function was some new invention, you were wrong. Żubrówka was fortunate enough to be built in Białowieża, through which one of the heavily frequented trade routes ran. It was the merchants who traveled through the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that contributed to the spread of Białowieża liquor in various parts of Europe and the world. And his first ambassador (who had a strong taste in Żubrówka) was King Zygmunt II August himself - the last representative of the Jagiellonian dynasty.

It was an elite rarity for a long time

Although in the past centuries Żubrówka was recognized in the Commonwealth and abroad (and also in aristocratic circles), it is difficult to speak of its massiveness. The production only allowed for its fairly elite distribution. The production of Żubrówka was increased only in 1926 thanks to the efforts of the POLMOS company. Has mass production hurt Żubrówka? Of course not! She only opened her way to conquering world markets!

It has a character unparalleled anywhere else

Żubrówka is the only rye vodka in the world mixed with turmeric decoction (hierochloe odorata) - a species of grass that grows in the forests of the Białowieża Primeval Forest. It is from this grass, commonly known as "żubrówka" or "bison grass", that the name of the drink was created. The maceration process takes place in the water and alcohol stages. The resulting essence is seasoned, then cleaned of sediments and possible impurities. It is thanks to the turówka extract that Żubrówka vodka has such a characteristic aroma and slightly yellowish color.

The hallmark of Żubrówka is not only the bison label, but also a blade of the aforementioned grass - each bottle of vodka contains one blade of turkey! The grass comes from specialized growers from the Białowieża region. The blade is cut by hand and put into the bottle. And although at this stage it is purely decorative, it must be admitted that consumers like it!

The potential of Żubrówka has been discovered by bartenders all over the world. And although it can be used for practically every bartending recipe, one drink still dominates - the so-called "Apple pie" or Żubrówka with apple juice.
