Żubrówka is a rye-based distilled vodka produced in Poland. In the process of its production, rectified spirit is mixed with a decoction of fragrant turmeric - a characteristic, long grass growing in the virgin areas of the Białowieża Primeval Forest. It is thanks to him that the classic Żubrówka has a characteristic, slightly yellowish color and a distinctive taste and aroma. Moreover, each original bottle of Żubrówka has a blade of turquoise inside - it is appropriately trimmed and manually placed in the bottles (however, it plays primarily a decorative role in them).
A truly noble taste!
Although Żubrówka is a product associated with every contemporary Pole, its creation dates back to ... the 17th century! In less than a hundred years from its inception, it has become a drink loved by the Polish nobility. It had already started its small expansion - it was produced near the Białowieża Primeval Forest, i.e. on the trade route connecting Vilnius and Krakow.
Nevertheless, the production of Żubrówka on a larger scale took place relatively late, which was due to the rather complicated production process. The method of mass production was developed in Białystok by the Polmos company in 1926. It is this company that still owns the "Żubrówka" trademark and is still the producer of this unique drink.
Żubrówka conquers the world
It can be said that the present times are a period of splendor for Żubrówka, as it enjoys great recognition not only in Poland, but also abroad. Research shows that Żubrówka is the most recognizable Polish vodka by foreigners, and the drink with a green blade of grass is sometimes the most sought-after "gift from Poland" bought by travelers. Moreover, it is often an (unofficial) "piece of equipment" for Polish diplomatic missions abroad. You can add even more - it is also one of the most awarded strong drinks at international festivals - and has been for the 1960s!
On the world podium
In 2017, Żubrówka was ranked third in the world vodka ranking, as emphasized in its publication by the American magazine "Shanken's Impact". The only global vodka brands that are behind Żubrówka are Smirnoff and Absolut. It only confirms the stable position of the brand on many foreign markets.
In which countries is "Bison Grass Vodka" chosen most often? It is consumed by the French (the total amount of Polish alcohol exports to this country is 4.2 million liters!) And the USA. However, the list of recipients includes countries such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Ecuador and Kenya! So can Żubrówka be bought everywhere? There are countries in the world (even in Europe) where Żubrówka is not exported ... but this may change, because its producer has an appetite for increasing expansion.
Why is Żubrówka making such a sensation?
What is this global phenomenon of Żubrówka? First of all, it is one of the iconic products associated with Poland. Secondly - it has no counterpart among the world's alcoholic beverages. It is its unique history, recipe, high quality and exceptional taste that have won the recognition of consumers all over the world. No wonder that, apart from the "classic" variant itself, new versions of Żubrówka have appeared: White, Black, or flavored versions, the presence of which increases the brand's chance for further expansion even more!
