Jack Daniel's is an American whiskey known all over the world. Its origins date back to 1866. Its unique recipe was developed by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel. It started production in a small distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, USA - it was the first and oldest officially registered distillery in the USA. Interestingly, the production of the cult Bourbon is still there today!
However, this is not the only curiosity related to the production site of "Jacek". The County of Moore, in which Lynchburg is situated, is the so-called "Dry county". This means that there is a total ban on the retail sale of alcohol in it, and therefore it is in vain to enjoy the taste of the iconic American whiskey in her home town.
Sales records
However, the sales ban in Moore County does not harm the brand. The product is known all over the world. The Jack Daniel's brand has been owned by the American company Brown-Forman Corporation since 1956 (the company also owns such a drink as Finlandia vodka). In 2017, 12.5 million cases of Tennessee Whiskey Jack Danie's "Black Label" were sold. The remaining whiskeys added an additional 2.9 million cases. To this should be added an additional 800,000 packages of ready-to-eat products (offered by the brand and based on the drink). This makes Jack Daniel's brand a leader in the global whiskey market.
More than one flavor of the iconic Jack
The drink won the hearts of tasters all over the world with its characteristic, quite mild taste. It is the result of a unique whiskey filtering process through an over 3-meter layer of maple charcoal (filtering a given type of drink takes about 10 days!). The taste of "Jack" is never the same, because it is a "blended" whiskey - in one bottle we can find beakers from several barrels. Moreover, experts from the Tennessee distillery decided to create several types of the iconic drink to even more tickle the palate consumers.
Jack types available in Poland
While there are 17 varieties of Jack Daniel's in the world, we can get only 6 of them in Poland. Those are:
- Old No. 7, also known as "Back Label" - this is the basic and most iconic version of the drink, produced according to the same procedure since the second half of the 19th century. The mash recipe of this drink consists of 78% corn, 12% rye and 10% corn. Before being subjected to the above-mentioned filtration procedure, it is also distilled twice.
- Gentleman Jack - this variety is slightly milder in taste than the flagship Old No. 7. This extremely subtle taste of the drink is obtained by filtering it twice with charcoal - once before aging, and then after.
- Jack Daniel's Single Barrel - called "the most inspiring among mainstream whiskeys". What is its phenomenon? One bottle contains one bottle of alcohol. In practice, this means that whiskey from 2 different bottles may have different aromas. Although the distillation procedure is the same, the beverages are aged in different barrels (often made of different wood), located in different places. These details affect the final and unique taste.
- Jack Daniel's Honey - it is a whiskey-based honey liqueur. The reduced alcohol content and the sweet taste, broken with bitterness, made him quickly find his followers.
- Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire - is also a liqueur made from mixing "Old No. 7 ”with cinnamon liqueur. The suggested form of consumption is "shots" or cocktails. Sweet and fiery, tasty, perfect for casual, casual occasions.
- Jack Daniel's Apple Winter Punch - Seasonal product, sold only in winter. Again, it is a whiskey-based liqueur with a distinct, spicy note, perfectly referring to the winter-festive atmosphere.
Jack types available in the world
There are at least a dozen kinds of Jack Daniel's around the world. And although the best-selling version is the iconic Old No. 7, it's gourmets will love to try different variations. Are you wondering what other combinations of this Bourbon can be found around the globe? Here is the list:
